Los Guantes

What we should spend a great deal of time discussing on the blog is how we managed to finish the roof in 40 mph gusts of wind. Wind plus 4ft by 12 foot sheets of tin plus standing on top of a house equals high probability of not so good news. With prayer warriors on the ground and strong show horses on the house, disaster was averted and a shiny new roof was completed. That's enough work stuff, but only the beginning of the God stuff.

Greg brought 12 pair of work gloves with him, wondering how in the world he was going to be in a situation to give them out. Greg noticed one of the youth of the village working hard shoveling dirt into a pile to make mortar with no work gloves. Seizing the opportunity, Greg went to the truck, and when he handed the youth the gloves, the young man just grinned and said "Gracias". Greg smiled back and thought to himself "five days and eleven pairs to go". A couple of minutes later a young girl who had been working walked up to Greg and held up her bare hands with an inquisitive look. Greg walked back to the truck to get another pair of gloves. When he closed the door and turned around, three more people were standing there. Three minutes later all the gloves were distributed. As Greg walked back to the work site one of the men who had been working tirelessly walked up to him and held out his hands. A flash of disappointment crossed Greg's mind only to be quickly replaced with a flash of God. Greg took his own gloves off his hands and handed them to the man. The man was stunned. He looked at Greg. Greg nodded. The man turned with an almost unnoticeable shake of his head in disbelief. Greg smiled. The man smiled. God smiled.

  1. Great moment. I wish I could sit under the clothes line and hear these stories being drowned out by the air conditioner and stand up every 5 minutes to reset the motion light in person.

  8. Great job Team Two! Has Senor Flores been monitoring your progress on the house? He whipped out a level on a few occasions to double check Team One's block laying ability, so I'm sure he is keeping a close eye on things. I wish I could be there to share the moment when the keys to the new house are handed over!

  12. The story about the gloves has been with me all day. Of all the amazing things that you experience in a day down there, what an incredible choice to use to share the power of God's love with those of us at home. Thank you! Keep up the good work and know we are praying for you all.
