Spirit in the Wind

As we have posted before, we have had the constant companion of a 40 mph wind gusting to over 50 mph since we landed (actually, it affected us WHEN we landed too!). It's the kind of wind that snaps weak tree branches and tears rusty tin from rooftops. If you want to know what it has been like sometimes for us to work in this wind, Ed gave a great illustration. Imagine being on a beach downwind from ten people who constantly get up and shake their towels right in front of you. The only difference is that instead of sand blasting you, it's grit and dung dust.

In his devotion the other night, Pastor Juan related that in the New Testament, the Greek word for "spirit" and "wind" are the same word - pnuema. No matter your nationality or where you live, everyone in the course of their lives enjoys life's cool breezes and also experiences the dung dust. The wind this week is also the kind that steels your resolve and makes you work and pray harder as a group. We have been comforted, lifted and challenged by the wind and the Spirit. We cannot see it but we can feel its effects. We all want to keep this Spirit we have felt this week within our hearts forever. Whether comforting or challenging, every day this wind of the Spirit makes us stronger and nudges us closer to the open arms of our God.

A great life lesson, isn't it?
